The power of 3's

So my friend Melissa made a joke to me the other day that things always happen in 3's and I had wore out all my bad luck.

Here's why.

On the 17th everything was just fine and normal. I was having a boring day because Matt was sleeping, he was on nights that week. So blah blah day goes on and Matt goes to work and I decide it's time to go to bed. Fast forward to the 18th at 330 in the morning, I head this banging on my door downstairs but kind of blow it off because I am a HEAVY sleeper. But the banging persists and I make my grumpy way downstairs to be greeted by an SP. Apparently the fire alarm on the outside of the house was going off, it signals if the sprinkler system in any of the four connected houses has activated. So he calls the fireman to come turn it off and that's when we realize that my neighbors house, who's gone visiting family and hubby was deployed, was pushing water out from the front door. By this time Matt is home (I called him because I am not a morning person and I was afraid I would pass out on the cops or firemen) and he unlocks the neighbors door to be greeted by about 4-5 inches of rushing freezing water. SUCKS! A pipe burst in her house and not only flooded their house but the neighbor's on the other side. Luckily ours only got a little bit of water. So we get it all cleaned up and save as much as we can then Matt has to go back to work.

SO that evening I am settled in watching some entertaining Desperate Housewives when a commercial comes on and I want to run down stairs and put away my mug of coffee. I hit the first step and proceed to fall on my ass down the flight of stairs. Coffee flying everywhere. Now I fall a lot, a whole lot, but nothing like that. I landed on my ankle and ass and literally couldn't move for 10 minutes. I still have the bruises.

SO THEN! I get back in bed after a good cry and try to settle in with a good book, the new collectors edition of Twilight that Matt got me for Christmas. And somehow when I scooted down to lie my head on the pillow I drop the HARDBACK book on my head giving me a pretty little bruise in between my eyes.

So 3 bad things happened to me in a matter of minutes.

Now for the good!

That Thursday I am just grateful to have gotten through the week alive when Matt wakes me up with a big smile on his face. No not for that.... he got our taxes done early and we are getting a HUGE refund! Last year we got almost nothing and even had to pay a little on state so the refund was a great surprise!

Then as some of you might know I've written a book and actually finished the VERY ROUGH draft. So Matt took me to this place called Windswept here in Dover to professionally print it out and have it bound! For the first time it looks like a real book!

And finally! Later that same day I realized something a little odd, hummmm I'm late! Which never happens to me. Matt and I had been trying for 6 months but for some reason it just didn't register. So we go get the test, Matt making fun of me because there was no way we could be pregnant, and I took it and it's a big fat positive!!!! OMG!

So 3 great things happened in a matter of hours! So maybe Melissa had a point, maybe things do happen in 3's. But I'm warning you now if I end up with triplets because of your theory of 3's there will be hell to pay!

Updates!

I'm really excited! I have been writing a book over the past few months and today I finished the bulk of it! AH! Yes I have million other things to do to it, editing, adding, fixing you name it, BUT the basic layout is done. I don't know if it will ever see the light of day, to be quite honest I am scared to death to let anyone read it, but who knows. IF I let a few people read it, after it is completely done a million years from now, maybe I will try my hand at getting it published. WHO KNOWS! I'm just so excited that after years of starting stories and leaving them unfinished I have a whole one! And on top of that it's a great story, the writing is scary and if Stephen King wrote it more people would probally read it, but I'm so passionate about my characters it's weird. I find myself thinking like them when I am writing which is so different than anything I've done before.

Next! This Saturday Matt and I are going to NYC! I have been obsessed with NYC since I was a kid but this will be my first time going! We are doing sightseeing, no shows which sucks but that's okay. I am really excited to see the tree and go to the Top of the Rock and get an areal view of the city! And attempting to bump into Daniel Radcliffe.... Matt says it won't happen but I have faith in my stalking skills! :) Just kidding..... (not really but I don't want the cops to hunt me down)

Besides that not much else, life is boring. OH Matt is now Staff Sergeant Shaffer, he got the BIG promotion! And he is really stepping into his leadership role, he's just awesome. Best husband ever, hands down.

Okay I'm going back to my story. Wish me luck, I don't have a printer so I am going to try and edit just on the computer. It's hard because I really love my red pen.....

XOXOXOXO and Happy Holidays!

Randomness

There are many, many, things in this life that I don't understand. So in an attempt to acquire new knowledge I put these questions out to the world. Oh and I will be adding to this, trust me....

1) WHY do I get every single freedom and right offered to an American, for example the right to get married at 18 to a guy I had only known 2 years. YET couples who have been together 20 years, paid their taxes and worked hard can't because of their sex.

2) Why put time machines or devices in books or movies? Because the question will always come up WHY NOT GO BACK IN TIME AND FIX THINGS! My example Harry Potter, WHY can't Harry go back and save Cedric??? Hellooooooo a few spins of the little hourglass should do it! Get on it Harry seriously! (Although my friend Miranda pointed out if Cedric didn't die we wouldn't have our Edward.... she's a very smart woman)

3) Who came up with some of the little things we take for granted. Like who decided that those gross little brown beans could be ground up and mixed with hot water to make my yummy coffee. OR who was the first person brave enough to try a mushroom, all gross with mud and dirt. Or who played the first musical instrument, or sing for the first time (And no History of the World Part 1 probably doesn't give the most accurate of accounts)

4) What's so addicting about MySpace?

5) What did we do on the computer before MySpace? No seriously I can't remember......

6) Why are there always fights about separation of church and state? Isn't that one of the founding principals of our country???

7) I'm pretty sure I know WHO came up with circumcision but who was the first mom to let someone do that to her baby???? Maybe she really wanted a girl.......

8) Why does a bottle of water cost $4 at the movies? Seems kinda dumb, especially when they have a water fountain right outside...

9) If you're color blind, but have never been tested, doesn't everything look normal to you? So with that theory our red could be your blue, your green could be our purple, our black could be your white. How do we know we aren't all color blind?????

10) Who took the time to invent Trigonometry? Some sadist I'm sure....

11) I remember a teacher in like 3rd grade teaching my class that blood was actually blue inside our veins and turned red when exposed to air..... that is false! And I quote 'Blood in veins can look "blue" when viewed through the skin because of light refraction and other factors.' SO SHOULDN'T MY TEACHER HAVE LEARNED THAT BEFORE TEACHING IMPRESSIONABLE CHILDREN! I remember thinking that was so cool and going home to tell my dad that and he just thought I was crazy, way to go teach.....

12) Why do Americans work longer hours and take less vacations than any other country? It doesn't make sense, work 6 days a week 51 weeks a year at a job you hate just to sit at home and complain about having to go back to work.... vacations work wonders. Hell you don't have to go far, I get excited when Matt and I get half and hour from Dover, if you live in Dover you understand.

13) Who decided that dogs made good pets? And how did dogs defend themselves in the wild before humans started caring for them? Were there wild packs of angry Chihuahua's ruling the jungle? History may never know....

14) How did our great great grandmothers do it? Clean, cook, raise kids, teach those kids, care for the husband, go to church, be involved with the community and all that without running water? Pioneer women were really superwomen.... and here I am bitching when my vacuum won't work right.

15) I believe in evolution but WHY OH WHY hasn't my dog evolved enough to let me know when she has to pee, rather then squatting down NEXT to the back door. Seriously evolve already.

16) I spent all day writing and somehow lost 2 pages..... how was that fair?

17) How come in the last 100 years technology has boomed so much? Why couldn't someone come up with a phone 500 years ago? OR a computer 200 years ago? People have been here for thousands and thousands of years and this is all new because?

18) Would you eat meat if you had to slaughter it?

19) Why are there rules for grammar? It's supposed to be from the heart and express individuality so why do I care about adverbs or commas? I say screw your commas. ,,,,,,,,,

20) Who decided that 18 was the age for growing up here in America? Does it make a difference if I'm 18 or 19? Why can I drive at 16, get married and join the military at 18, but not drink until 21? Why 21? Why not 20, a nice round number. My mom told me once it was to keep kids safe well mom get this, 18 year old kids can star in porn but can't drink to their DVD release.... seems odd to me.

We made history!

No matter who you voted for I think everyone can agree that election day was amazing. I'm so proud that I helped rock the vote! (It was my first time) I'm always proud to be an American, even when I don't agree with the decisions our president makes, but for the first time I feel we have a real shot to move forward and actually make this country great. No matter what you feel about our new president elect let's all remember one thing, we have to stand together. If we don't it will just be 4 more years of fighting and anger and I think we can all agree our nation can't survive any more of that. So depending on who you wanted to win, set off your fireworks or get out your anger now, because come January things are going to change and we ALL have to be ready for it!

Going on a trip... or 3! And the West Wing....

So my hubby and I are going to take a few trips this winter and I can't wait!!! First we're going back to Philly but this time we're taking a haunted city tour. It's going to be really interesting to hear actual history sprinkled with ghost stories and folklore, it should be great! Then we are headed over to Baltimore to see our friends Miranda and Bri! And if that isn't going to be fun enough we're going to see Twilight! Woot! I am a little obsessed with the books and can't wait to see it with my friends. I have a feeling it is going to be a very girly day! I can't wait! Then it's on to our big NYC trip in early Dec. It will be our first time to the Big Apple and we are going to try and squeeze in as much as we can in the 14 hours we will have there! I'm a pro at traveling in big cities by now but NYC seems a bit scary, especially at Christmas time! I'm really hoping to fit in a show while we're there but that might have to wait until next time. We really want to see the touristy sights so we will have to play it by ear. After the New Year we want to plan a few more trips, I really want to go to Boston and Atlantic City and Matt is dying to go to a Yankees game, although he might need a friend to take because I would have to kill the screaming annoying people... but that's just me. Any takers? lol. And I'm hoping, but not holding my breath, that my parents will finally make their way out to see me. I've been married 6 years and they have yet to visit. We ALWAYS go to them. So we will see how that goes...

Now to my love of The West Wing. In 1999 when the show started I was 14 so I really didn't care about the president or his staff or a TV show about them. But now Matt and I have started watching season 1 (Thank you Netflix!) and are eagerly waiting for season 2 to get here on Monday. It's really neat to watch this show and kind of tie it together with the current election. Although it is a fictitious show, and the thought of our current president having to make some of the decisions that Martin Sheen's character has to make scares the shit out of me, I have to admit that I feel like I am understanding our government a little bit more. It's exciting! I am looking forward to getting back to DC and trying to tour the Senate, which you can do if you get there early enough to get tickets! And if you know me you know I am never early.... but I'll move on. So if you haven't watched this show, pick it up, there is a reason it won every award on this planet.
